Lorca you DIRTY DOG!!! Although it felt like the story was pushing this way, it was still a bit of punch when the penny dropped.
This episode was so intense and the heartache just stretched out. So nice to see that Stamets and has not actually lost his mind, exactly, but the scene with Culber was ‘off’. It wasn’t two lovers separated by death, but less intimate somehow.
In contrast, the heartbreaking intimacy between L’Rell, Tyler and Saru were gold and some of the finest in this episode. L’Rell managed to evoke her anguish as she chooses to save Tyler and essentially banishes Voq now to her memory. This, was the best scene this episode.
Emperor Georgiou, squinted a lot and all but hissed… still, I like her scenes with Burnham a lot.
I am still bothered by the long story arc. This is almost too soap opera, and while Star Trek is not beyond a little soap now and again, this focus on a single storyline and it’s threads is proving a bit uneven in places.
I am still enjoying the show, but the differences between it and classic Star Trek are now so glaring, one wonders if the point is a bit lost somewhere. Again, Sonequa Martin Green is excellent.
