My god-baby

My 15 year old God-daughter: I held her in my arms, fed her, changed her, bathed her and now she is flowering into a woman and it’s both wondrous and a little shocking to me. How fast the time flies… how quickly it all goes.

She has a Facebook page, and a boyfriend, and well ‘looks’ like the one she’s currently smouldering into the camera! I mean, she was just a little thing just yesterday!

She’ll be all grown soon, and I’ll be like a great-auntie before I know it and well… I’m becoming my mother and there’s no way to mitigate it. I love this little girl… loved her her entire existence, before she was even a serious bump. I love her, because her mother is my oldest, dearest friend and her children and my children you know?

As I type, the little boy who was made in South London is clambering across the back of my chair, and talking into my ear and nuzzling my neck. Off to find more mischief…

As I look at the photo above, taken not far from where I first stayed when I moved to England — North Greenwich — my heart aches for the beautiful city I loved living in.

I LOVED London. I loved everything about it, even the grind and the harsh reality of it, I loved my life there. In London, I was more me than I have ever been, and every day I have been in Barbados has been a day deep inside, I wished I was still there.

Taken with the 2.5G phone I’ve been using the last week and a half.

This job is turning me into a phone junkie too…. kinda want to get a 3G phone now.

The resolution on these pics aren’t very good, but then the phone I’m using is an old one. Also, I’m pretty sure my hand was shaking all over the place, although I tried. So here’s my first experiment with mobile blogging.

I’ve seen these amazing 2 megapixel camera phones being advertised.

So…. looks like there’ll be a new dimension to the goddess room now, doesn’t it?

The Bad Girl & The Bad Boy @ Three Pools in Blanchisseuse, Trinidad & Tobago April 11, 2004

Here is Big Mami, in the Paria River on the North Coast of Trinidad. I went up there with some friends a few months back.

What this picture can’t tell you, is that I was singing for Mama Osun at the top of my lungs.

The smile is the pleasure of going to my Mother’s home. I worked to get there too. To get to Paria, it’s a three hour drive from my house, then a three hour hike. The hike to Paria is considered one of the most difficult in Trinidad, and one of the most challenging.

A year earlier, I was walking with a cane.

I was made over, by a great makeup artist, Laura Sooklal, for Ephraim Hunte Productions…

Isn’t it amazing the difference?!
